Summer happenings at the Homestead

My friend, who was our constant companion during our outdoor projects.  He was always around when we dug up some fresh dirt for some fresh worms!

Plastic was layed on the ground to kill the grass underneath to prevent it from growing up between the blocks, and then a layer of sand to set the 12" x 12" pavers in.  (We found the best price for the pavers at Home Depot.)  It took some time to make the corners meet and make them level but we all know anything doing is worth doing right.

A few lighting projects

Two simple projects, the one on the post is simply an empty tuna fish can + a $1 candle bowl from the craft store + the top of a solar light.  The other, a $1 solar light from the Dollar Store, disassembled, glued to an old glass light shade and then reassembled after drying.

Serving up a border made from plates.  Just dig deep enough to make sure the plate is planted firmly.  It helps to wet the soil first and then tamp down the soil in front and back of the plates.  A plate flower was planted and then mulch was spread.
